Replace Bad Study Habits to Skyrocket Your Grades

better study habits

We’re all guilty of being creatures of habit sometimes, aren’t we?

However, if you pick up bad study habits, you might lose more than you bargained for when you’re in your final GCSE or A Level year.

Truth is: good habits make life easier. Bad ones could:

  • Stop you from making progress at school
  • Seriously affect your exam results
  • Make your subject courses tougher than they need to be

Let’s explore two of the worst study habits which are likely to scupper your chances at smashing your target grades!

Leaving it ‘Till the Last Minute

Oh my word! You’ve done this too, right? It’s always fatal.

Let’s face it. If you’ve a test or assessment tomorrow and you’ve delayed revising, you won’t do as well as you could. Fact!

It’s far better to:

  • Start earlier to give yourself time to tackle any daunting areas of the syllabus
  • Plan study time into your schedule and aim to do a little bit as often as you can
  • Practise the type of questions you’ll be set to increase confidence and speed

Remember: if you avoid a subject which doesn’t float your boat, don’t avoid it.

Instead, try to find another way to learn. YouTube offers a more interactive way to pep up your study habits if you’ve just been trawling through your book.

Teachers across the country now post lessons online that are absolutely free. Just don’t get sidetracked by social media…

A Chaotic Study Space

Sound familiar?

  • Your bedroom resembles a bomb site with paper, files and books everywhere
  • Your carpet hasn’t seen the light of day for quite some time
  • You can’t find work, folders, books as they’re buried … somewhere

Unsurprisingly, study clutter is a recipe for disaster.

It’s one of those bad study habits which won’t improve unless you take a big breath and dive in the deep end, to grab back some sanity and order in your study space.

The best option is to:

  • Have a better storage system so that you can find subject material fast
  • Use colour coded folders for different subjects to keep important info together
  • Use file tabs to separate out key subject topics in revision folders

It’s amazing how fast you’ll get back on track when you don’t have all these bad habit hurdles in the way.

Better still, if you invest time into prioritising your studies now, you needn’t look back later with regrets.

Boost Your Study Habits with Extra Support

Of course, it can be tough to go it alone sometimes – especially when you just don’t ‘get’ a tricky topic.

Why not cut your subject stress in half by arranging a private tutor who’s a revision expert?
